Arthur Moreira Lima
Arthur Moreira Lima Jr. (16 July 1940 - 30 October 2024) was a Brazilian classical pianist.
He gained international attention after winning second prize at the VII International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1965, and later won third prize at the 1969 Leeds International Piano Competition and the 1970 International Tchaikovsky Competition.
His repertory ranged from Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Mozart and Rachmaninoff to Brazilian composers including Ernesto Nazareth, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Radamés Gnattali, Francisco Mignone, Brasílio Itiberê da Cunha and Waldemar Henrique.
In the later part of his career, Moreira Lima became closely associated with the project Um Piano pela Estrada, which took piano recitals to public squares, small towns, peripheral neighborhoods and regions of Brazil with little access to concert-hall programming.
