Keyblade
Kingdom Hearts is a video game series and media franchise developed and published by Square Enix (originally by Square) and owned by The Walt Disney Company. A collaboration between the two companies, it was conceived by Square employees Tetsuya Nomura and Shinji Hashimoto. Nomura has served as the series' director and creative lead since the first game.
Kingdom Hearts features a crossover of various Disney properties within an original fictional universe, as well as appearances by characters from Square Enix properties such as Final Fantasy, The World Ends with You, and Einhänder. The main plot centers on Sora, a boy who wields a Keyblade, as he journeys across various worlds to protect his friends and thwart the schemes of numerous villains. Noted for its intricate lore and complex narrative, the series features a large ensemble cast of characters and includes several story arcs, with the first eleven games collectively comprising the "Dark Seeker Saga".
The series consists of thirteen games available for multiple platforms, and future games are planned. Most of the games in the series have been positively received and commercially successful. As of March 2022, the Kingdom Hearts series has shipped more than 36 million copies worldwide. A wide variety of related merchandise has been released along with the games, including a manga series, light novels, soundtracks, action figures, companion books and a collectible card game.
